| Our team was shorthanded today in a great victory in the first round of the season ending trounament. Both Brett and Landon had other committments, but that didn’t stop our other seven from dominating the dog fight. We have become used to the rules of bantam that allow a player to do anything they want to the shooter, just as long as they tough some part of the ball. If there is no blood, then the ref will rub his two hands together to show there was a tip and the play continues. We saw lots of the rubbing of the hands and both teams pushed the limit of what was acceptable. We were scrappier and we won. |
KEY PLAY - THE DRIVE AND DISH
Take a close look at the following photo. Jared Bradshaw is nowhere to be seen, but he made the key drive and dish play. Look closely at the defenders and ask yourself why nobody is looking at JJ as he made the easy under the basket shot. Why? Because Jared B drew every player to him and slyly got the ball to his open man... It was 3 seconds of beauty that defined our win. |

It still cracks me up because Jared B is surrounded by all 5 of the Timpview players. Jared B is the one with the blue on his shoes coming down from his drive and what was supposed to be a shot (or so they thought). Number 2 is set for a charge, their big man is coming down from a mighty swing at the non-existant shot, and the rest of the team has swarmed to bury both Jared B and any foloow-up rebound. #2 obviously realizes the jig is up because he is starting to look towards JJ and he is getting his shoes all twisted up as Jared B is laning upon his left foot. The result is Aaron, Parker, Tanner, and JJ are all wide open. JJ put in the shot and got all of the glory. As a big man myself, I love playing with drive and dishers like Jared B. They make the big man look talented. They allow the big man to score lots of easy points. They make the other team look down right foolish as every Timpview player took the bait and were totally faked out. And finally, they make the opposing coach immediately jump up and yell for a time-out being totally disgusted by the easy way our team was able to score... He was mad at the play above because Jared B did the same thing earlier in the game with Collin being the recipient of the easy basket. |
JARED BRADSHAW - THE GAME CHANGER
Jared B was my favorite difference maker in today’s win over Timpview. His contributions don’t make it into the Bantam League stat book, but his aggressive driving and dishing makes everybody on our team that much better... Way to go Jared B!!! |
TANNER MEAVES - BIG SCORER
Tanner Meaves played an icredible game today. He made at least 8 or maybe 12 points. Most were not off the easy open shot. Instead, Tanner received the pass and drove around defenders to create his shot. It was really fun to watch hom create the points.

JUMP SHOOTER - PARKER SCORES
It was really fun watching Parker play today. He put up several great jumpers from the outside, and most went in. It was also fun watching him crash in for rebounds. This young man has some great vertical leaping abilities, combined with an intuitive knack for knowing where the rebound is going to go. Great game Parker!
I also liked the silly side of Parker as he drove in for a lay-up during pre-game drills and looked straight into the camera with a silly face.

AARON - DROP STEP SUCCESS
It has been fun watching Aaron play the role as point guard. Once puberty hits, he will probably grow too tall to enjoy that position on future teams. But for now he has accepted the Coaches request and he is making the best of it. I have enjoyed watching him learn to control the ball and make the best pass options. The Coach gave the team some advice a couple of weeks ago to clap your hands twice when you make a mistake and then get on about the game. Aaron was one of several of our players that would stew on a mistake and really get down on themselves. Clapping the hands has been a great piece of advice.
Aaron made some good decisions and really played some great defense today. It was most fun to watch both Jared B and Aaron up on top as they would both swarm on the ball and the Timpview players became frazzled and unable to get off a decent outside shot when those two were on the floor at the same time. It was interesting to see that the only outside jumpers from Timpview were made when either Jared B or Aaron was sitting on the bench. Those two are definitely our quickest in getting on the ball.
The funnest Aaron play for me came in the second half as Aaron posted up down low, received the ball, spun to his right around the defender and put of the shot for a score. He did it just as he had been coached and he beamed with pride after the game as his Uncle jay said that he must have learned that move from his Dad. |

REBOUNDS
Both teams get huge At-A-Boys for their rebounding on both offense and defense. It was a mad scramble every time a shot was missed at both ends of the court. Take a look at these photos... |

FREE THROWS
The game was wild, and lots of fouls were called. Nathan, Collin, Brett, JJ, Aaron, and I even think Tanner went to the line. Wait a minute, Jared B also went to the line. That means that our entire team took free throws... If I am wrong, then please let me know, but that is incredible. It also shows how important it is that the boys are practicing because free throws made the difference in the game. Timview was in foul trouble in both halves, with one player fouling out. We made a good percentage and these points made the difference between a win and a loss. |
